On June 25, Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) and ExxonMobil Chemical Corporation jointly announced the construction of a world-class elastomer manufacturing base in Jubail Industrial City. To this end, the joint venture Al-Jubair Petrochemical Company (KEMYA) will be established and is expected to be completed in 2015.
The total investment of the new project is 3.4 billion U.S. dollars. It will build a production facility with an annual output of 400,000 rubber. The products include halogenated butyl rubber, styrene-butadiene rubber, polybutadiene, EPDM, thermoplastic polymer and carbon black. . Products are mainly sold to the Middle East and Asian markets. The two companies have approved the next phase of project development, engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts.
