The Mouvex principle, developed by Blackmer Pumps, is based on the operation of a reciprocating eccentric piston that creates positive pumping capacity for a positive displacement positive displacement pump. However, its behavior is quite sensitive and therefore well suited to the two main considerations of shear and potential leakage.
Mouvex Principle Pumps Mouvex Principle Pumps differ from other types of positive displacement pumps in that they do not agitate the liquid being pumped. Instead, the reciprocating pistons inside the pump chamber are used to pump liquid by eccentric movement, and the movement is gentle. The pump's direct-drive design requires neither a mechanical seal nor a magnet, thus making the pump leak-proof.
Eccentric pump consists of two parts, namely a cylinder and a pump mounted on the eccentric shaft. When the eccentric shaft rotates, the pump core generates a pump room in the cylinder. The effect is to increase the size of the suction port and draw liquid into the pump room. The liquid is delivered to the discharge outlet, where the pump house is reduced in size. This action squeezes the liquid out into the discharge line.
The Blackmer Mouvex C-Series and S-Series pumps are designed for fluids up to 36m3 / h and pressures up to 9bar. These pumps provide constant product flow regardless of pressure or viscosity. Coupled with automatic piston / cylinder wear adjustment, the pump ensures complete flow efficiency and high product stability at all times. In addition, the design ensures that the capacity measurement and dosing are highly accurate.
The C Series Blackmer Mouvex C Series and S Series Pumps are based on the same principle of operation but were developed for very different applications. For C Series pumps, the eccentric shaft is enclosed in a metal capsule made of 316 stainless steel (Figure 1). The ATEX-compliant C-Series pumps can be made from either 316 stainless steel or ductile iron, which meets the 3A standards and the recommended hygiene standards required by EHEDG.
The pump automatically starts and lubricates, allowing dry operation to clean any residual liquid in the suction and discharge lines. The pumped medium serves to lubricate all moving parts. Applications for this pump typically include the following industries: Chemicals, Resins, Cosmetics, Agrochemicals, Petrochemicals, Paper, Personal Care Products and Irritating Food and Beverages.
Two diametrically opposite applications clearly demonstrate the performance of the C Series pumps. A C18i unit at a factory producing automotive coatings has been used by manufacturers that make cationic (pigmented) and cationic binders (no pigmented) for 4 years. These raw materials have a maximum viscosity of 100 cps and a flow rate of 18 m3 / h.
The Mouvex pump was used to transfer the cationic binder from the stocker to a removable tanker truck, which in turn delivered the binder fluid to the carmaker's workshop. However, cationic binders can dry quickly and easily during tank loading, so a pump with a dynamic seal can not be used. Mouvex's seal-free design solves this problem, providing the operator with a "clean" solution.
The same C18i design was used to pour orange concentrate in a food processing plant. The viscosity of the concentrate is 3000 cps and the liquid needs to be pumped at a pressure of 3 bar at a flow rate of 3 m3 / h. In this application, a cam pump or a peripheral piston pump is usually used and the customer wishes to optimize the pouring time. At the same time, end users want to help concentrate to meet the hygiene requirements for preparation in order to fill the concentrate in the bottle. Two C18i pumps were installed in parallel and by controlling the speed of both pumps, they were able to optimize the pouring time according to the viscosity of the orange concentrate.
The pump has excellent priming performance, thus ensuring good pouring regularity and allowing the pump to run for several minutes in a dry environment, which is important for the final stages of the pour cycle. The pump has excellent capacity measurement accuracy, which allows it to be filtered while it is poured before it is ready for final preparation. S-Series Contrary to the above, the S-Series pump is a smaller, lighter device with a drive mechanism protected by a colorless, odor-free, high-resistance elastic sleeve (Figure 3). This allows the pump to meet FDA certification requirements (S4C and S6C). The S Series Mouvex pumps are well-suited for the food, beverage and personal product processing industries and are designed to clean CIP and SIP. The slow motion of the reciprocating piston provides accurate capacity measurement performance and enables the pump to accurately dosing and mixing high and low viscosity liquids.

The S4C pump again accelerates the mixture with varying concentrations into a refining tank (Figure 4). From this jar the coffee extract is sent to the refining plant. In this particular production workshop, double pump units must work in three shifts (8 hours per shift) and therefore require extremely high reliability. The unverified design of the Mouvex pump offers this reliability and reduces maintenance requirements, with the pump being open only once a year for inspection.
As it turns out, S-Series pumps are ideally suited for the production of a wide range of products in the dairy industry. For a unit supplying concentrated condensed milk to a spray tower, the main operating requirements include a constant flow rate of 8 m3 / h and a pressure of 7 bar. In addition, there is a requirement for the efficiency and accuracy of the capacity measurement as the response time after any adjustment must be kept as short as possible with no unwanted fluctuations. The provided S6C equipment is capable of working in a three-shift (8 hours per shift) schedule and fulfills the above work requirements as well as the CIP regime, ie a flow rate of 30 m3 / h four times per week.

Mouvex pumps are used in a number of applications, all in line with ATEX, EHEDG and FDA requirements. In other types of positive displacement pumps, shear-sensitive products encountered in production pose significant problems with mechanical seals, and corrosive liquids can cause premature aging of seals. Mouvex principle pump does not exist this situation. Any wet pump core does not rotate, thus producing a gentle, smaller shear force that is required by many processes.
