Linear Technology Introduces Ultra Low Dropout Regulators for Instrumentation and Industrial Markets

Linear Technology has introduced a new LT3020 LDO industrial grade (I-grade) version for industrial and automotive applications. The new LT3020 is a 100mA ultra low dropout regulator (VLDO). Output voltages include fixed 1.2V, 1.5V, and 1.8V, and adjustable options ranging from 0.2V to 9.5V, and operate over a temperature range of –40°C to 125°C for automotive, industrial, and instrumentation applications market.

In handheld products, the LT3020's minimum input voltage is 0.9V, enabling it to operate over the entire voltage range of single-cell alkaline and nickel metal hydride (1.4V to 0.9V) cells, and can drive low voltage microcontrollers and micros. Processor core. In addition, its 150mV dropout voltage optimizes battery run time for single cell applications. The LT3020 also features a micropower operation with quiescent current of 120uA and shutdown current of less than 3uA, extending the operating time of battery-powered applications.

The LT3020 regulator optimizes stability and transient response with low ESR ceramic output capacitors as low as 2.2uF. Other features of the LT3020 include flat typical voltage regulation and 0.2% typical load regulation over a 1mA to 100mA load current range. Internal protection circuitry includes reverse battery protection, current limiting, hysteresis thermal regulation and reverse current protection.
