Oftentimes, electronics are designed and built for longer battery life, but there are exceptions, such as Transient Electronics, which this article describes. The original intention of the design is to protect the environment and to activate degradation in the environment such as temperature, light or moisture. Now scientists at Iowa State University have designed a battery for such devices, which decomposes when immersed in water.
