Two chemical plants in Beijing to stop air quality during Olympics

The Beijing Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau announced the day before yesterday that in order to protect the air quality during the Olympics, the Chemical No. 2 Plant and the organic chemical plant in the southeastern part of Beijing have been completely shut down, and dangerous materials in the plant have been safely disposed of. Prior to this, both companies were key sources of hazardous waste around the Olympic venues. Once Beijing moved eastward, pollutants could float to the urban areas.

Earlier, the Beijing Olympics air quality assurance program announced that during the Olympic Games, high-pollution enterprises will stop production and limit production to ensure good air quality during the Olympic Games.

The responsible person of the Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau Cd^p55HH6 said that the No. 2 Chemical Plant had ceased production in November last year, and hazardous waste had been entrusted to a qualified unit for disposal. The organic chemical plant was shut down ahead of schedule on June 22 this year. As of July 1, all the hazardous chemicals that had been removed had been transferred to the licensed units in other cities.
