The reporter learned on September 26, 2011 that Delphi has revealed that it is developing new air-conditioning technology for micro hybrid vehicles, which not only saves energy but also improves cockpit comfort.
Delphi's Phase Change Material (PCM) evaporator integrates PCM into the air conditioner evaporator. When the vehicle is operating normally, this material can be cooled by condensation, and when the vehicle stops running, this material liquefies after absorbing heat from the air. Delphi's choice of paraffin-based phase change vaporizers allows the perfect combination of thermodynamic properties and long-term reliability. Delphi has added some additional components to the existing evaporators, built-in refrigerant in the evaporator, without moving any parts, greatly simplifying the installation process. Traditional air-conditioning systems can consume 5% of the fuel of a vehicle when operating in hot weather conditions, while Delphi's PCM technology can halve the air-conditioning system's fuel usage while improving occupant comfort. The technology is currently being tested and is expected to be put into production in 2014.
