GL and IHIMU team up to develop LNG fuel ship

Although LNG has been proven to be a marine marine fuel, what about the main engine fuel for a global trade container ship? In order to develop a large LNG fuel container ship solution, German Lloyd's Register (GL) and IHI Marine Joint Co., Ltd. (IHIMU) signed a joint development project (JDP) agreement.
GL and IHIMU will jointly develop a 13,000 TEU container ship fuelled by LNG. According to Dr. Pierre C. Sames, Senior President and Director of Strategic R&D of Lloyd's Register of Shipping, “IHIMU shares the vision of GL, LNG will become a challenge for the maritime industry to reduce its emissions to the air and reduce its impact on global climate change. fuel."
IHIMU first launched the eFuture 13000C container ship in 2010. At that time, GL evaluated the ship's main hull structure. The newly signed joint development project will focus on the LNG fuel system. The system consists of a fuel oil storage station, oil tanks, and gas preparation. IHIMU will design key structures based on design assessments, hazard identification, etc. provided by GL and implement design certification in principle when successful R&D projects are completed. The safety assessment of the gas supply system will be the key to the GL-promoting project.
