Navistar Joins Hands with JAC to Advance Combustion Engine Show to Boost Joint Venture Project

On October 8, 2011, Navistar Corporation and Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Co., Ltd. (JAC) joined hands to participate in the 10th Combustion Engine Show to demonstrate their plans to establish a joint venture of personnel and technical expertise. The main business of the joint venture is The Chinese market offers advanced commercial diesel engines.

The engine joint venture will focus on meeting the emerging needs of the commercial truck market using Euro IV and Euro V technology. The MaxxForce® engine series, both designed and manufactured in China, will provide Jianghuai auto customers with durable fuel-efficient clean air technology.

“Navistar is not simply introducing Western technology, but our management and employees have extensive business experience and are Chinese-born Chinese leaders and receive Chinese-style education.” General Manager of Navistar China Mr. Ruyi said that the headquarters of the joint venture company will be established in Hefei, Anhui. "With our deep understanding of the market, we are able to develop and provide the best engine power for Chinese customers."

Dr. Yan Jingde and Ning Lei. Yan are the main leaders of the engineering and development team. Yan Jingde is Vice President of Research and Product Development at Navistar, and has more than 30 years of experience in powertrains and commercial vehicles. Ning Lei Yan is a senior employee who has worked at Navistar for 23 years and was recently appointed as the technical director of powertrain product development. Both of them were born and raised in China. They received a degree in engineering from Dalian University of Technology, and later studied in the United States to pursue a number of advanced degrees in engineering and business.

Mr. Wan Ruyi has more than 25 years of experience in the automotive and commercial vehicle industry, and he is mainly involved in the Chinese market. He successively held important positions at China General Motors, Delphi China, Shanghai SAIC General Motors joint venture, Iveco China Truck Operations Department and Fiat Group China Corporation.

"In order to win customer's attention and meet the Chinese market's demand for clean, high powered and efficient diesel engines, Navistar has been committed to the development of advanced air, fuel and post-processing technologies."

Products planned for the Chinese market include the new MaxxForce 3.2H and MaxxForce 4.2H. The former MaxxForce 3.2H can provide up to 125 kW of power and 550 Nm of torque. The latter MaxxForce 4.2H offers up to 162 kW of power and 920 Nm of torque. Both engines feature low noise and fuel consumption.

According to the framework agreement reached in 2010, Navistar and JAC will each own 50% of the new joint venture company. Headquartered in the United States, Navistar is a leading manufacturer of commercial vehicles, passenger cars and diesel engines. JAC is headquartered in China and is a leading manufacturer of commercial vehicles, passenger cars and engines. The joint venture will establish a research and design center in Anhui Province for application engineering development, product design and technology research and development. The diesel engine produced by this engine company will be mainly used on trucks for highway applications.
