At present, in the nearly 30 shipyards of the two places, the advantage of being 30% lower than the cost of the Pearl River Delta has attracted many shipowners, the orders are overwhelming, and shipbuilding production is in full swing. In 2006 alone, there were nearly 330 ships built (including alterations) in the two places, and more than 90% of the ships were built by private enterprises.
Zhanjiang Shantou is eager for private capital to drive
Zhanjiang Shantou has the best shipbuilding conditions, but its shipbuilding capacity is relatively weak. The two places are eager to inject private capital into the shipbuilding industry.
Shantou is currently working on building a modern port city, creating an emerging manufacturing base and having certain strength in shipbuilding. The Royal Danish Shipyard is one of the largest shipyards in the world. It was first shown to the gimmick but it has not become a reality. Huang Zhiguang, mayor of Shantou City, said that Shantou has a good investment environment. The government will give full support to the shipbuilding projects that come to settle down, and hope that the private economy of shipbuilding will drive other economic operations of Shantou. According to reports, at present, the two civil shipbuilding enterprises in Shantou City have the ability to build ships with a length of 90 to 120 meters, but they have not formed a climate, and the order is not satisfactory.
Better than the conditions of the Shantou, the shipbuilding situation is even more worrying is Zhanjiang, to the point where the thirst for the people to build the ship capital to save Zhanjiang shipbuilding. Zhanjiang City has a natural deep-water port. The deep-water coastline accounts for more than half of the province's total, and there are as many as five locations for the construction of 300,000-ton shipyards. Zhanjiang also has higher education institutions such as Guangdong Ocean University and the technical staff and technical capabilities of the central and navy research institutes and various types of shipbuilding and repairing ships. The innate conditions for the development of the shipbuilding industry are superior. However, none of Zhanjiang’s existing nine shipping companies can produce 10,000-ton ships. Not long ago, a shipping company asked the Zhanjiang Shipbuilding Association to build a 20,000-ton container ship. In the face of this hundreds of millions of orders, the staff of the association refused to die because the entire western Guangdong region was unable to build ships of more than 10,000 tons. Zhanjiang has fat meat at the mouth, and can only "see the flesh and sigh".
Some experts summed up the above phenomenon and said that private capital enters the shipbuilding industry, with Jiangmen as the leader, Qingyuan as the two wings, and Zhanjiang Shantou as a supplement, the development trend of Guangdong shipbuilding industry will not be the same.
