Russia's auto sales increase by 15% in August

According to data released by the European Chamber of Commerce’s AEBRUS, Russia’s sales of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles reached 259,000 vehicles in August this year, a year-on-year increase of 15%. Chinese auto makers continued their momentum of doubling their sales in Russia during the month.

In August of this year, Russia’s light vehicle sales were 258,761 units, which was a year-on-year increase of 15.1% from 224,811 units in the same period of last year. From January to August, the cumulative sales volume was 1,928,216 units, an increase of 14.4% over the 1,686,062 units sold in the same period of last year.

In contrast, Russia has surpassed France in sales and has been catching up with Germany, the largest single market in Europe. According to the CCFA of the French Automobile Manufacturers Association, the number of new cars registered in France in August was 96,115 units, which was a year-on-year decrease of 11.4%. The number of registrations in the same period last year was 108,462 units, which continued to decline for 10 consecutive months; the cumulative number of registrations in the previous 8 months was 1.29 million units. , a year-on-year decrease of 13.4%. Accumulated registrations for the same period last year were 1,493,745 units.

According to the German Automobile Manufacturers Association VDIK data, the total number of new passenger vehicle registrations in Germany in August was 226,455 units, which was 4.68% lower than the 237,561 units sold in the same period of last year. In the previous August, the cumulative number of registrations reached 2,108,716 units, which was a decrease of 0.58% compared to the same period of last year. In the same period last year, sales were 2,121,047 units.

The largest-selling brand in the Russian market is still Volga's Lada, but the brand's sales in the Russian market have recently shown a downward trend. It was 51,149 units in August, which was basically the same as 50,941 units in the same period of last year. Accumulated sales in the first 8 months decreased by +1,2% from 348,974 units to 392,999 units.

The highest-selling car company is the Renault-Nissan-Volga alliance. Last month, sales volume increased from 4.48% to 77,368 units from 74,089 units. Accumulated sales increased by 1.25% from 578,083 units to 585,079 units.

The European Chamber of Commerce AEBRUS expects Russia's annual sales to reach 2.85 million vehicles this year, an increase of 8% from the same period last year.

China's highest-selling vehicle manufacturer in Russia, Lifan, achieved 2,006 vehicles in August this year, compared with 1,797 units in August last year, an increase of 11.6% year-on-year; 13,384 vehicles in the first eight months, an increase of 18.7% from 11,288 units in the same period last year.

Chery ranked second in August sales of 2,219 units, compared with 639 units in August last year, an increase of 247.3%; this year, the cumulative sales of 12,479 units, compared with 3,505 units in the same period last year, an increase of 256.0%.

The third Geely sales volume in August was 2,083 units, which represented a year-on-year increase of 334.0% from 480 units in August last year. This year, the cumulative sales volume was 10,067 units, which is a year-on-year increase of 260.1% from 2,796 units in the same period last year.

The fourth Great Wall sold 1,262 units in August, which is a year-on-year increase of 158.1% from 489 units in August last year. The cumulative sales volume for this year was 8,306 units, which was a year-on-year increase of 127.9% compared to 3,645 units in the same period of last year.

The fifth BYD sold 187 units in August, an increase of 6.3% from 176 units in August last year. This year, the cumulative sales volume was 1,969 units, compared with 908 units in the same period of last year, an increase of 116.9% year-on-year.
