Transmission: The domestic market is in great need of "speed-shifting"

Recently, at the 4th GRC Transmission Technology Symposium, Dr. Wu Zhixin from the China Automotive Research Center told reporters that with the rapid growth of China's auto market, the average annual transmission output of the passenger vehicle market has increased by 23% over the past five years; However, due to the immature automobile market in China, the manual transmission has a higher loading rate. Currently, the loading rate of automatic transmissions is only about 35% of new offline products. "With the further development of the market, by the end of 2015, the proportion of automatic transmissions will account for more than 50% of the total passenger vehicle market share." And Mr. Huang Fangqing, the forecasting director from IHS, believes that from 2002 to 2012, ten During the year, the domestic automobile joint venture's automatic transmission loading rate has reached 50%, while the self-branded automobile companies' automatic transmission loading rate is less than 20%. There is a huge market space in the brewing industry, and the resulting technical upgrading is even more arduous.

As we all know, in the three key parts and components technologies of the automotive industry, including engine, transmission, and chassis technology, Chinese parts and components companies still lag behind in transmission and chassis technology. In recent years, many independent brands have placed the transmission development strategy at the core position, and have introduced a number of manual transmissions through independent and cooperative research and development. At present, these products are widely loaded on the main models of their own brands, and are already in the stage of improving quality.

However, in the field of automatic transmissions, due to high investment risks and high technical barriers, independent brands lacking technology reserves and accumulations are struggling. According to reports, on the road to the development of automatic transmissions, Chinese OEMs are currently digesting their own things through commissioned development, technology transfer, and transfer of intellectual property rights. This really requires a process. While a huge market space is emerging, how can we find the right path for rapid development? This is a test for domestic auto makers.

We have seen that FAW has planned a number of automatic transmission product platforms for its own-brand passenger cars. SAIC also has a clear automatic transmission product strategy, including Chang'an, BYD, and Geely, even though domestic independent companies have also developed and developed in recent years. We have trial-produced various kinds of automatic transmission products, but at present there are almost no self-developed advanced automatic transmissions that can actually be loaded in large quantities.

At the same time, apart from the theoretical aspect, an automatic transmission product is used to test the matching relationship between the shift curve and the power output through the integration of the transmission with the engine and the vehicle; at the same time, a series of actual test links are needed to perform Product verification test calibration, so as to obtain its comprehensive evaluation from dynamics, smoothness, stability and other aspects.

As the first company to bring the dual clutch transmission development and test technology to China, GRC has its own R&D laboratory and experimental facilities at its R&D center in Suzhou. “Gifford is an engineering company and is the result of bringing the products to mass production. It is different from the design goals of the company. Our strength lies in the complete verification measures and measures to ensure the reliability of the products.” Gifford Power Technology (China) Co., Ltd. General Manager Fu Xiuqi clearly stated to reporters: “At present, the auto gearbox design capabilities of domestic auto manufacturers have been greatly improved. In the future, GRC’s core business in China will turn to testing. Our goal is to The automatic transmission technology really landed in China."

It is reported that GRC will invest 10 million euros in Jiangsu Wujiang to build a new test center, adding 12 test benches in succession. By the end of next year, there will be 15 gantry operations. “In the past, we have been exploring for ourselves, and there has been no accumulation. We have been working horizontally in recent years to seek joint ventures and cooperation with our own technology owners. The speed of the joint venture will increase. However, if China’s automatic transmissions are to have real influence, it will take 5 to 10 Years.” Fu Xiqi said.

What needs attention is that at this GRC gearbox technical seminar, the participating experts discussed the development of transmission technology in the era of hybrid and electric vehicles. Feng Dalun, an executive director of GRC, told reporters that its parent company GIF has 120 test benches worldwide, 8 of which are equipped with battery simulations. The cost of each test bench is 200,000 to 300,000 Euros. From the power supply to the exhaust heat removal device design, including the hazard protection of test engineers, etc., the construction of the electric vehicle test bench is very complicated.

New energy vehicles are the core strategy for the future development of China's automobile industry. Therefore, in the field of transmission technology in the field of hybrid and electric vehicles, domestic vehicle and component manufacturers should advance technological reserves to ensure that they do not fall behind in the next technological turning point.
