Xing Min, executive vice chairman and secretary-general of the China Internal Combustion Engine Industry Association, said that one of the key tasks for the development of China's internal combustion engine industry during the 12th Five-Year Plan is to develop engines for low-energy, low-emission vehicles and various alternative fuels. He said that the development strategy of the internal combustion engine industry is to strive to achieve the grand goal of transforming from a producing country to a producing country around 2020, and making positive contributions to the realization of China's economic transformation and upgrading and improvement of social ecological benefits.
The reporter found that in the "12th Five-Year Plan" of the internal combustion engine industry, the development of commercial vehicles , diesel engines for passenger vehicles , and gasoline engines for passenger vehicles that meet the requirements of national emission regulations meet the requirements for high power density diesel engines for various types of special vehicles. Powered passenger vehicles and extended-range internal-combustion engine electric vehicles, focusing on the development of alternative fuel engines such as natural gas, methanol, and bio-fuels, and the development of components for advanced internal-combustion engines, have been included in key development product areas.
In view of the current prominent problems in the energy conservation and emission reduction of China's internal combustion engine products, such as low comprehensive energy efficiency, low proportion of advanced internal combustion engine energy-saving products, development of alternative fuel internal combustion engine products is in its infancy, and weak foundation for green manufacturing and remanufacturing of internal combustion engines. The internal combustion engine industry policy needs to be further improved and a series of issues. Xing Min pointed out that the internal combustion engine industry is an important basic industry in China, with high technology, high correlation, long industry chain, wide employment, and large consumer spending. It is the current global equipment manufacturing investment. With emphasis on development, the next major step for China’s efforts to promote energy-saving and emission-reduction of internal combustion engines must be based on China’s energy security, climate change response, and improving the competitiveness of the internal combustion engine industry to reduce energy and resource consumption and reduce carbon dioxide emissions as the main line of concern. Specifically, Xing Min believes that the key to solving the major problems in the energy-saving and emission reduction of internal combustion engines in China is to do four things:
The first is to solve the key issue of improving the commonality of the internal combustion engine energy efficiency. In terms of the gasoline engine, the focus is on the application of supercharged direct injection technology, mastering core technologies such as combustion and control, and promoting the development of key components such as direct injection fuel systems and superchargers. In terms of diesel engines, the focus is on the promotion and application of electronically controlled high-pressure fuel injection systems, highly efficient pressurised intercooling systems, and exhaust after-treatment systems to achieve the industrialization of diesel and energy-saving products. Strive to reach the end of the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" period and reduce the overall level of fuel consumption of internal combustion engines in China by 6% to 10% compared with the end of the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" period.
The second is to reduce the energy and resource consumption of the internal combustion engine products from the production to the end use. The key is to do a good job of saving energy and reducing consumption in the production process and use of the product, and to achieve green production of low-energy-consumption and energy-saving materials for internal combustion engine production. Accelerate the development of remanufacturing of internal-combustion engine products, actively carry out research and development of remanufacturing technologies, improve the remanufacturing process, establish and improve management systems for recovery of defective products, remanufacturing, and market use, and cultivate a batch of key internal combustion engine remanufacturing enterprises.
The third is to promote the development of alternative energy internal combustion engine products. Focus on the promotion of the application of natural gas single fuel and dual fuel combustion technologies in automotive engines, the application of gasoline/methanol fuel technology in passenger car gasoline engines, and the promotion and application of diesel/methanol combustion technologies in heavy-duty vehicle diesel engines. Solve the problems of reliability and corrosion resistance of key components of fuel supply systems.
