Gao Jianchang: It can be said that the history of racing is Dunlop's history. Before 126, Mr. Dunlop invented the world's first inflatable tire, and Dunlop took part in the first 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1923. It can be said that Dunlop is the longest participating tire brand in this competition. Today, the iconic landmark of victory, the Dunlop Bridge, still stands on the Le Mans track.

As far as I am concerned, it also has a close relationship with Le Mans. Twenty-five years ago, I worked at the Dunlop tire factory in the UK and participated in the French Le Mans 24 Hours at 4 degrees. I still remember that Dunlop had made a brilliant victory for the legendary Mazda 787b racing car. Now he wants to see everything.

Q2: Will those teams use Dunlop tyres in this competition? What are their achievements?

Gao Jianchang Wen: This season, Dunlop provided tires to all four major teams, including LMP1, LMP2, GTEPro, and GTEAm. In the total number of cars reached 8, there are Nissan and OakRacing prototypes, BMW, Ferrari, Aston - Martin GT sports car. Among them, OakRacing and the BMW team are the annual championships of their respective teams last year. Q3: As far as we know, a total of three tire manufacturers participated in Le Mans. How does Dunlop look at the situation of multi-brand competition?

Gao Jianchang Wen: In fact, single-brand events and diversified tire brand events have their own characteristics. Dunlop had long served as a sole brand tire supplier for the DTM German RV Masters, providing tires for all teams, which focused on demonstrating the strength of the tire factory. And multi-tire brand events such as Le Mans race provide us with a platform for mutual competition and will have a stronger role in the development of new technologies.

Q4: How does Dunlop use Le Mans as a platform for new product development? How can these technologies be applied to product production?

Gao Jianchang Wen: Le Mans endurance is very difficult, but the long game can generate rich data. After each game, Dunlop engineers will analyze the used tires. At the same time, we will also put tires equipped with new technologies and new formulas on the field for testing. Through endurance races, we can fully understand the working conditions of tires in extreme situations and make corresponding adjustments. It is the long-term practice and research and development in the Le Mans competition that makes our tire technology have the characteristics of "Le Mans" - strong grip, wear resistance, and energy saving.

Q5: Can we reveal some of Dunlop's latest production and sales conditions for us?

Gao Jianchang Wen: Due to the rapid growth of China's auto market, the demand for tires has also expanded. With the growth of the Chinese market, Dunlop has also gradually set up a tire factory in China in recent years to provide Chinese consumers with tire products with superior performance and reasonable prices. At present, most of Dunlop's high-end tires rely on imports from Europe and Japan. This has virtually increased the burden on consumers. In view of this situation, we are building a new plant in Changsha, Hunan, and we expect to gradually start production in the second half of next year. Products. Dunlop has long been supporting tires for Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi and other manufacturers. At the same time, it has also become a leader in the replacement tire market with outstanding tire quality.

Q1: Dunlop provides tires for four teams. What's the difference between these tyres?

Paul: Although all of the tires we have for the team are DUNLOPSPSPORTMAXX, the models and recipes are not the same. Since both the LMP1 and LMP2 cars are extremely lightweight, these cars require extremely strong grip. For this reason, the tire formulations we offer will have a stronger viscosity at the same working temperature. In contrast, the GT car body is heavier, so the formula can be more wear resistant. In addition, each group of tires will be divided into hard tires, soft tires and neutral tires. We will provide a variety of options to suit different track environments.

Q2: How did Dunlop cooperate with the team to obtain relevant information and data?

Paul: We have dedicated technical engineers for each team to fight alongside them. Before each game, the team will use soft tires, hard tires, and neutral tires to run laps and obtain data on the track. We will analyze the data and tell the team decision-makers, the performance of the drivers and the car when using different tires, and provide them with information support. At the same time, engineers will also recycle and sample the tires to obtain usage data for each game. In fact, we often carry out R&D and testing of new tire formulations while racing.

Q3: Can you talk about the tire strategy? It does not seem simple.

Paul: Yes, the tire strategy is very important in Le Mans. If you look closely, you will find that all the tire replacement work can only be completed by two technicians, which will extend the tire replacement time. You can imagine that when the tire replacement time is much longer than the inbound refueling time, the time cost for replacing each tire will increase. The organizing committee is hoping to adopt this rule to reduce the number of tire replacements for the team.

Of course, you may think that using a hard-wearing or harder tire can reduce the number of tire changes and you can win. However, it is not so simple. Some excellent drivers can quickly gain advantages after replacing soft tires with strong grip. Therefore, tire strategies must also vary from person to person.
