China's ABS imports continue to grow or remain unsustainable

In May 2010, the total amount of ABS imports from China was approximately 189,696 tons, which represented a year-on-year increase of 12.89% and a month-on-month decrease of 1.86%. From January to May 2010, the cumulative import volume was about 8,67,209 tons, an increase of 7.7% year-on-year. According to the data, China's ABS imports have increased significantly for the third consecutive month. If the impact of the Spring Festival holiday is deducted, China's ABS imports will continue to rise for the 11th consecutive month.

In general, automobiles, appliances and electronic appliances are the three major applications of ABS resin. In China, nearly 80% of ABS resin is used for electronic and electrical accessories. Last year, the state introduced a series of consumer stimulus programs such as autos, home appliances to the countryside, home appliances replacement, car tax relief purchase tax, and so on, which will undoubtedly benefit the ABS industry and increase the industry's development speed.

However, in a situation where the contradiction between supply and demand is constantly changing, it is difficult for any market to maintain its upward trend. Constrained by the inability of the downstream to transfer high costs and the European debt crisis to suppress the external environment, the domestic ABS market began to weaken in May and market prices suffered successive setbacks.

Although China’s total ABS imports remained at a high level in May, due to contractual restrictions on time, this data cannot be used as a support for seasonal decline in demand. In general, the import contract goods signed in May will enter the port customs declaration gradually from June to July. Therefore, if we really want to confirm the decline in demand in the recent period from the data, we must wait for the announcement of the import data from June to July to be clear. .
