Uzbek to invest US$46 million to build sulphuric acid plant in copper smelter

Uzbekistan's "Almarek" mine and metallurgical complex will complete the pre-feasibility study for the sulphuric acid plant construction project of the copper smelter in September 2010. The report said that the total amount of the above-mentioned project is US$ 46 million, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2011. It will solve the problem of the reuse of sulfur-containing waste gas and increase the annual production of sulfuric acid by 1.8 times to 500,000 tons. The Uzbekistan Development and Development Fund provided financing for the project of US$30 million and the remaining US$16 million was settled by the “Almarek” mine metallurgical consortium’s own funds. At the end of 2010, Uzbekistan will bid for procurement of related equipment.
