Hubei "Key Technology for Low-Cost Fuel Cells" Accepted by Experts

Recently, the "Key Technology for Low-cost Fuel Cell Technology" project of the Hubei Provincial Science and Technology Support Program undertaken by Wuhan Polytechnic New Energy Co., Ltd. has passed the acceptance of experts from the Provincial Science and Technology Department. The R&D team successfully developed a second-generation automotive fuel cell stack marked by CCM membrane electrodes and metal bipolar plates, with a power density of more than 2.7 kW/l, which meets the performance requirements of the entire vehicle, and at the same time the amount of platinum used as the precious metal catalyst can be reduced. To about 10g/car, it is only slightly higher than the amount of precious metal used in exhaust gas catalysts for vehicles, so that the fuel cell stack cost can be effectively controlled and the research results can reach the international advanced level.

Fuel cell vehicles are the “three vertical and three horizontal” development strategy of China’s new energy vehicles. The Hubei Provincial Science and Technology Department began to support the research and development of fuel cell technology 10 years ago, and established Hubei Provincial Key Laboratory of Fuel Cells. Promoted the establishment of Wuhan Polytechnic New Energy Company, launched a large number of key technologies for the development and industrialization of fuel cells for vehicles, and developed fuel cell membrane electrode products for sale to the United States and many other countries and regions, becoming the R&D aspect of China's 863 Plan fuel cell technology. The important base for the development of Hubei vehicle fuel cell technology is at the forefront of the country.

The fuel cell car has a driving range of more than 500 km, a refueling time of only about 5 minutes, and zero emissions (only water discharge products) and other advantages, known as the "ultimate electric car." However, fuel cell vehicles cannot be pushed into the consumer market due to their high cost, and they have been considered to be commercialized in the next 10 to 20 years. With Toyota Motor announced on November 15, 2014, the world's first commercial fuel cell car Mirai (translation: future) will be listed on December 15, priced at only 7 million yen (approximately 3.7 million yuan ), the cost dropped by more than 90%, and a hydrogenation can travel 700 kilometers, while the hydrogenation time only 3-5 minutes. Professionals say that the era of fuel cell electric vehicles is approaching.
