Mitsui exhaust treatment technology eliminates up to 90% PM2.5

According to Nikkei News, Japanese company Mitsui Shipbuilding Corporation is optimistic about the needs of China with serious atmospheric pollution problems. It plans to convert the exhaust gas treatment technology for diesel engines into an exhaust treatment technology used in factories and other places. The company's exhaust gas treatment technology can use plasma to decompose particulate matter (PM) such as dust to remove up to 90% of PM from the exhaust gas. Compared to conventional electric dust collectors, PM adsorption efficiency is higher.

The processing technology was jointly developed by Mitsui & Co., Ltd. and Daihatsu Diesel Engine. The principle is to use a plasma to charge the PM and then adsorb it to the electrode to decompose it. There is no need to mechanically recover the adsorbed PM like an electric dust collector, eliminating the risk of re-diffusion.

In China, atmospheric pollution caused by particles with a diameter of less than 2.5 microns (PM2.5) is increasing. Using Mitsui’s shipbuilding processing technology, it is possible to capture nano-sized particles that are difficult to capture with filters, so it is expected that PM2.5 will fall below the baseline value. In addition, China's small and medium-sized factories that did not install air pollution prevention devices will generate waste gas. Mitsui’s shipbuilding is paying attention to the dynamics of the market, and localized production in China is also on the agenda.
