ABB has provided a single control system platform for electric drive, generator, safety and automation systems for the 5,000-ton heavy pipelaying vessel built by Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group Co., Ltd. (Wuchuan).
This is the first time ABB has provided power and propulsion systems and integrated automation solutions for pipelaying vessels. According to ABB, this type of pipelaying vessel is typically used for ultra-deep water operations and is among the highest in terms of accuracy, precision and availability.
ABB will integrate electric propulsion systems and electrical automation systems and control them through ABB's iconic 800xA distributed control system platform.
The vessel will be delivered in the first quarter of 2018 and will be designed for pipelaying, lifting and subsea construction operations and will be extended to the more specialized deepwater market.
