On August 8, the BMW Group released sales data for July this year. From January to July, the Group's global sales increased by 7% year-on-year to 1.14 million units, and sales in China climbed 22% to 262,000 units. With the new X5 and other models, BMW is still the best-selling luxury car brand, but the advantage of leading Audi has narrowed.
Overall sales: In close proximity to Audi in July 2014, the BMW Group delivered a total of 163,959 BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce brand vehicles to consumers worldwide, compared to 152,351 vehicles in July 2013. It increased by 7.6% year-on-year. This increase is significantly higher than the 4.8% in June this year.
From January to July this year, the BMW Group's global cumulative sales volume reached 1,184,170 units, compared with a cumulative sales volume of 1,106,852 units in the same period last year, an increase of 7.0% year-on-year. The BMW X4 has been launched, and the sales volume is expected to expand significantly in the future. The BMW 2 Series will also be launched during the year, which will further boost sales.
The BMW brand delivered 139,399 vehicles worldwide in July and 128,596 trucks worldwide in July 2013, an increase of 8.4% year-on-year. From January to July, the cumulative global sales volume of the BMW brand was 1,025,747 units, an increase of 10.0% compared with 932,823 units in the same period of 2013.
The MINI brand was not as good as BMW. Sales in July increased by 3.2% year-on-year, with only 24,259 units sold (23,515 units in the same period last year), but better than 7.6% in June. From January to July, MINI's global cumulative delivery volume was 156,154 units, down 9.4% year-on-year, compared with 172,314 units in the same period last year.
The new MINI Hatch third-generation hatchback sold 11,970 vehicles in July this year, up 22.3% year-on-year, compared with 9,785 vehicles last year.
From the sales performance of the German luxury three luxury car brands, Audi is struggling to catch up with the status of the BMW luxury car leader, Mercedes-Benz also hopes to recover the sales crown that has been falling since 2005.
In January, the Audi brand surpassed BMW in global sales in a single month. Although BMW narrowed the gap in February, it still sold 383 fewer cars than Audi (242,400 Audis and 242,017 BMWs). Until the BMW brand achieved a new sales volume of 186,000 units in March, the sales volume in the first quarter surpassed Audi and continued to occupy the title of the world's highest-selling luxury car brand.
In July, the Audi brand delivered 144,000 vehicles to consumers worldwide, compared with 131,321 units delivered in July last year, an increase of 9.7% year-on-year. From January to July, Audi's global cumulative sales volume reached 1,013,350 units, up 11.1% year-on-year, compared with 911,788 units in the same period last year.
Last month, the Audi brand sold more than 4,601 units, a year-on-year increase. In the first seven months of cumulative sales, BMW led Audi to only 12,397 units.
Model sales: X4 and i3 breakthroughs The BMW 3 Series increased 6.2% from 255,745 units to 271,720 units from January to July.
The BMW 4 Series was launched in October 2013 and has delivered a total of 57,524 units in the first seven months of this year.
In the first 76 months of the BMW 5 Series, 208,093 units increased by 7.4% year-on-year to 223,587 units.
The BMW X4 began shipping to consumers in July this year, the first to achieve 1,296 sales.
The BMW X5 began selling its third-generation products in November last year. The cumulative delivery volume in the first seven months increased by 31.4% year-on-year to 79,537 units from 60,544 units.
The BMW i3 electric vehicle delivered a total of 6,620 vehicles from January to July, reaching 1,224 vehicles in July alone.
Maintaining more than 20% growth in China In July this year, the BMW Group delivered a total of 36,884 vehicles in China, the largest single market. In July 2013, it delivered 32,194 vehicles in China, an increase of 14.6% year-on-year. The BMW Group has not released the sales data of the BMW brand and the MINI brand in China for the time being.
From January to July, the BMW Group's cumulative sales volume in the Chinese market was 261,919 new highs, up 214,994 units in the same period of 2013, up 21.8% year-on-year, maintaining the number one sales ranking in each market.
Since entering 2014, the BMW Group's monthly sales in China for six months have increased by more than 20% year-on-year, and it slowed slightly in July. In January, 30,397 vehicles increased by 22.2% year-on-year to 37,137 units. In February, 23,449 units increased by 29.1% to 30,281 units. In March, 32,224 units increased by 25.8% to 40,533 units. In April, 30,311 units increased by 24.6% year-on-year to 37,765 units. In May, 31,938 vehicles increased by 22.4% to 39,107 units in May, and from 34,481 units in June, they increased by 16.6% year-on-year to 40,212 units.
Driven by the growth of the Chinese market, BMW Group's Asian sales in January-July reached 373,594 units, compared with 318,821 units in the same period in 2013, a year-on-year increase of 17.2%.
Among other Asian countries, South Korea's BMW sales volume was 25,736 units from January to July, an increase of 16.7% compared with 22,053 units in the same period of 2013.
Regional sales: increase in Asia and Europe. From January to July this year, the BMW Group achieved growth in all three major regional markets.
In the Americas, the total deliveries of the BMW Group increased by 3.6% from January to July, reaching 259,658 units, compared with 250,517 units in the same period last year. Among them, 213,754 vehicles were delivered to customers in the United States, an increase of 5.4% from 202,780 vehicles in the same period last year.
From January to July, BMW Group's deliveries in Europe increased by 2.8% year-on-year to 513,707 units, compared with 499,902 units in the same period last year.
In July, it grew by 8.7% year-on-year to 23,646 units in Germany.
In the UK, 11,825 vehicles in the UK climbed 9.3% year-on-year to 12,920 units in the same period. In the first seven months, 108,578 units increased by 2.5% year-on-year to 111,261 units.
